OK so everytime I look at the clock, rather it be my alarm clock, blackberry, microwave, pc or mac it "coincidentally" reads 3:33 pm and am!!!! and if you know me, you know I believe that there is no such thing as a coincident! People always think Jamiss is my real name, it’s actually Janelle. So when I first started out rapping and thinking of names, I thought Miss J. At the time Miss Jade from Philly was rapping and I didn’t want our names to sound alike so I flipped it and combined the j and miss and came up with Jamiss (Juh-miss).

Why did you choose to pursue music in the first place? Why did you choose the avenue of rapping vs. singing, producing, songwriting, etc?

I always wanted to be in entertainment and I loved writing songs and poetry and I hung out with rappers and felt I could do the same.

Everyone has a first performance. Take me through the emotions of your first performance.

First performance. Wow. It was when I was in a group at some lil gymnasium in Chicago my hometown with a lot of other new artist and I totally upstaged my group member ha.

For you what kinds of steps are taken when it comes to writing and creating a song? Also what kinds of time, emotions, and experiences go into your songwriting and what do you hope that people feel after hearing your material.

When I write I like to vibe out to the beats and let it take me places, rather it be the club, a relationship, grinding or relaxion tip. Sometimes you know the concept and idea and just need the right beat. A situation may provoke you to want to write as well. At least for me.

How if at all has Chicago influenced your craft/style and is there anything special that you wish the world knew about Chicago. If so do you believe that your music can help to shed light to Chicago’s urban mystique?

Chicago has def influenced my style. I’m really different so I surrounded myself with different people like Twilite Tone, NoId, Ibn Jasper; you know the greats of Chicago. I have learned a lot from being in their prescence. I wish people knew how much talent was in Chi. My music will shed a light on that. I have to make sure I continue to work with other artist and producers to keep that Midwest feel.

You have been in the company with the likes of some of hip hops greats that include the likes of Kanye West. How did you come to be a part of the elite circle? What have you learned from being around this crowd?

I have known Kanye for a while. Being around him, NoId, Common, Big Sean and GLC Ilearned a plethora of things. They dont sleep lol. They take 2 minute power Naps that’s it. One thing that always resignates with me is when No ID told me “its not about discovery, it’s about doery. Just do work. Some people are ok with making it to the league and not getting the ring.” All in all I would sum it up they have taught me what it takes to make it. How to make great records and fasion tips as well.

If you have one critique about yourself what would it be?

One critique about myself would be to exercise my patience more and know that God’s timing is the right time.
